Top 5 – Art Festivals in Gaspésie

Photography, painting, sculpture, film, multimedia… Gaspésie offers a multitude of high-quality art festivals! Here are 5 not to miss.

The 9th edition of the Rencontres internationales de la photographie en Gaspésie, an international photography festival, will take place throughout the region from mid-July to the end of September 2018. Using the theme of chaos as inspiration, some 20 artists will focus their reflections on a planetary environment undergoing profound change. Discover contemporary photography through a series of exhibits and installations in several municipalities and national parks. Evening movie screenings, discussions and round tables with participating photographers will also take place on August 17 and 18, 2018.

Artistes en Fête Champêtre is a painting festival that brings together about 50 painters and sculptors in Sainte-Flavie from July 25 to 29, 2018. Watch them work during live demonstrations in colourful huts! You can also vote for your favourite artist and be entered into a draw for an original painting! The Symposium du Week-End des Arts de Port-Daniel-Gascons is an art weekend and symposium that takes place from September 16 to 18, 2018, and brings together professional and emerging artists. For the occasion, the Port-Daniel church turns into a giant art gallery. Watch artists at work and learn more about their process. And who knows, you might be inspired to take a painting home with you…

Festival de sculptures d’art populaire de Saint-Ulric

The Festival de Sculptures d’Art Populaire de Saint-Ulric takes place this year from July 27 to 29, 2018, and features folk artists from across Québec. Discover unusual works of art made with materials of all kinds. The event also includes a weathervane and pinwheel contest open to all self-taught artists. The Fête du Bois Flotté, which takes place in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts from August 2 to 5, 2018, is a fun driftwood festival. In addition to meeting the sculptors, you can also take part in workshops and enjoy entertainment and activities of all kinds: street performances, inflatable games for children, a craft fair, tastings of local products, live music shows in the evenings and more.

The Percéides, Festival international de cinéma et d’art de Percé is an international film and art festival taking place in Percé from August 16 to 26, 2018. This innovative festival presents a selection of shorts and feature films in a wide variety of genres: documentary, fiction, animation, popular cinema, rural cinema, and experimental and auteur cinema. The event features both well-known and up-and-coming filmmakers. Contemporary public art installations related to Percé’s natural and architectural heritage are also part of the festival.

PHOS is a festival dedicated to photographic images and their various uses in the visual, digital and multidisciplinary arts. The event takes place over two weeks, from September 1 to 16, 2018, in Matane and includes exhibits, performances, artist talks and workshops in both indoor and outdoor venues. Every year, the event features the works of about 30 artists and communications professionals from the region and beyond.
