Gaspésie Tour: Outdoor Adventures Itinerary

Are you looking for outdoor sports adventures? Here is a suggested itinerary for a 7-day trip around the Gaspé Peninsula that will wow you!

Day 1 – Hike in the mountains in Parc national de la Gaspésie

Duration of drive: 45 minutes from Parc national de la Gaspésie to Tourelle

Discover the Chic-Chocs by climbing Mount Albert or Mount Jacques-Cartier, two of the 22 peaks over 1000 metres high in Parc national de la Gaspésie.

Accommodations: A festive seaside youth hostel, the Sea Shack offers you the option of camping on the beach or staying in a dorm or cabin, not to mention hanging out at the fun Tiki Bar!

Other options for activities: Eskamer Aventure, Extrême Chic-Chocs-Safari.

Local flavour to try: Savour a pint of Le Malbord beer at this microbrewery’s pub in Sainte-Anne-des-Monts or grab a can to enjoy a drink by the sea!

Day 2 – Hang-gliding and sunset paddle boarding

Duration of drive: 30 minutes from Tourelle to Mont-Saint-Pierre and then 2 hours from Mont-Saint-Pierre to L’Anse-au-Griffon

Go hang-gliding in Mont-Saint-Pierre with Vue du Ciel or Les Passagers du vent or in Mont-Louis with the Club de vol libre de la Haute-Gaspésie (a free-flight club).

End your day with a sunset paddleboard excursion in the Penouille sector at Forillon National Park.

Accommodations: The Griffon Aventure hostel, which strives to be a model of sustainable development, offers camping, dorms, rustic cabins and a bar overlooking the sea.

Other options for activities: Cap Aventure, Aube sur Mer, Carrefour Aventure.

Local flavour to try: Savour a beer from the Cap Gaspé Craft Brewing Co., served on the brewery’s patio in Gaspé. You can also buy bottles in their boutique, which you can then enjoy around a campfire!

Day 3 – River canyoning and beach fun

Duration of drive: 75 minutes from L’Anse-au-Griffon to Coin-du-Banc

Enjoy a day of canyoning with Griffon Aventures before heading to Percé and ending your day on the beach at Coin-du-Banc.

Accommodations: Camp de Base Coin-du-Banc is a popular meeting place for outdoor enthusiasts. It offers 10 rooms in an old-fashioned lodge and 3 cabins.

Other options for activities: Percé UNESCO Global Geopark, Les Croisières Julien Cloutier and Les Batelier de Percé,

Local flavour to try: Savour Pit Caribou beers at the pub of the same name in the heart of the village of Percé or on a magnificent patio overlooking the sea at the microbrewery in L’Anse-à-Beaufils.

Day 4 – Kayaking and Percé Rock

Duration of drive: 2.25 hours from Percé to Maria

See Percé Rock from a different angle in a kayak with Avolo Plein Air and visit the many attractions of Percé before driving on to Maria.

Accommodations: A stone’s throw from the beach in Maria, Auberge du Marchand offers rooms, studios and apartments as well as a restaurant featuring local flavours.

Other options for activities: Club nautique de Percé (yacht club), Parc national de l’Île-Bonaventure-et-du-Rocher-Percé, Le Malin de la rivière Bonaventure (rapids and beach).

Local flavour to try: Along the way, stop in at Ferme Bourdages Tradition to purchase delicious strawberry or rhubarb wines and many other treats!

Day 5 – Fishing for striped bass

Duration of drive: 20 minutes from Maria to Carleton-sur-Mer

Go sea fishing for striped bass with Pêche sportive Baie des Chaleurs or Bar rayé Aventure (in Caplan).

Accommodations: Located by the sea in the heart of Carleton-sur-Mer, L’Auberg’Inn offers dorms, lofts and a rental house.

Other options for activities: Écovoile Baie-des-Chaleurs (sailing), Taylor’s Point Park.

Local flavour to try: Savour a beer from Le Naufrageur on the microbrewery’s patio in Carleton-sur-Mer or buy their beers in bottles at the minimart next door and enjoy them wherever you want! More options

Day 6 – River canoeing

Duration of drive: 45 minutes from Carleton-sur-Mer to Matapédia

Discover waterfalls and sites that are otherwise inaccessible during a day of canoeing with Nature Aventure or extend the fun by going on a canoe-camping trip.

Accommodations: Entirely made of wood, the Camp de Bûcherons des Plateaux offers rooms and lofts in the heart of the forest.

Other options for activities: International Appalachian Trail, Route des Belvédères (scenic drive).

Local flavour to try: Purchase Gin Mugo made by Distillerie Mitis in Mont-Joli upon your arrival in Gaspésie or at liquor stores (SAQs) during your vacation.

Day 7 –Salmon fishing

Duration of drive: 40 minutes from Matapédia to Causapscal

If you have never been salmon fishing before, participate in an introductory day of salmon fishing with the Matapédia and Patapédia Rivers Management Corporation or go fishing on your own on one of the three rivers in this area.

Accommodations: Built of logs and overlooking the river, the Auberge-Pourvoirie de la rivière Matapédia (Matapedia River Lodge Outfitter) welcomes you for an overnight stay or a salmon-fishing package.

Other options for activities: Site des Chute et Marais (interpretation centre), ATV excursions, Parc régional de la Seigneurie du Lac Matapédia.

Local flavour to try: Don’t miss the raspberry liqueurs, mistelles and wines made by La Vallée de la Framboise in Val-Brillant and be sure to try their famous homemade slush!
