Top 5 – Sites for Outdoor Cultural Events in Gaspésie

In the summer, Gaspésie offers many opportunities to enjoy outdoor shows, events, movies and other activities. Here are 5 sites that offer diverse outdoor cultural programming.

Parc des Îles, Place des Générations and marina, Matane
The town of Matane offers evenings of outdoor movie screenings in Parc des Îles on July 23 and 30 and August 6 and 13, 2018. Bring your own chairs and blankets! Food and drinks will be available on site. (In case of rain, the event is postponed to the following night.) Another option is Le 19h Show, a series of musical evenings taking place outdoors at Place des Générations in downtown Matane from late June to mid-August. Finally, the Matane marina offers happy hours with live entertainment on Thursdays and Saturdays from June 21 to September 1, 2018 (except June 23).

Espace Suzanne-Guité, Percé
Located in the heart of the city of Percé, with a magnificent view of Percé Rock and Bonaventure Island, Espace Suzanne-Guité is a popular gathering place. This public plaza offers a variety of shows that are either free or by donation. During peak tourist season, you can expect to see clowns, circus artists, dancers or musicians in this space. In case of rain, the shows generally take place in the indoor space next door (accommodating 50 people).

Birthplace of Canada, Gaspé
The Birthplace of Canada Historic Site is a reconstruction of the village of Gaspé as it was in 1900 and includes one original heritage home and six reconstructed buildings. This magnificent site on Gaspé Bay offers musical shows and entertainment, a multimedia show (A Tale of Time and Tides) and evening movie screenings. Interpretive activities are also offered in various buildings on site as is a guided walking tour of Gaspé.

Musée Acadien du Québec, Bonaventure
Special activities are planned to mark Canada Day on July 1 and National Acadian Day on August 15 at the Musée Acadien du Québec. You can also enjoy outdoor screenings of historical documentaries about Acadian, Gaspesian or Québécois history on Monday evenings from July 9 to August 13, 2018. Be sure to also visit the museum’s temporary and permanent exhibits to learn more about the history of the Acadians, an outstanding people. You can also participate in a geocaching treasure hunt and look for real or virtual caches in Bonaventure and Pointe Beaubassin.

Sainte-Flavie wharf
The Sainte-Flavie wharf bustles with activity in July and August during the Viv(r)e la Mer festival and the Jeudis soirs ô quai on Thursday evenings. Combining art, contemplation, physical activity and the joys of discovery, the Viv(r)e la Mer festival is all about the sea, local maritime heritage and traditions, and Sainte-Flavie hospitality. From July 6 to August 19, 2018, head to the wharf on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. to enjoy various free shows (music, storytelling, etc.) that will introduce (or reintroduce) you to the attractions of the St. Lawrence River, known to locals as the sea.
