Top 5 – The colours of autumn in Gaspésie
To take full advantage of the autumn colours in Gaspésie, we offer 5 breathtaking views.
Mont-Albert Summit – Parc national de la Gaspésie
The Parc national de la Gaspésie offers a wide variety of hiking opportunities. Whether for a 30-minute walk or several days of hiking, you will discover breathtaking views. Mont Albert is a classic; with its 1,088 m peak, it offers a 360 degree view of a sea of colourful mountains.
Cap-Bon-Ami – Forillon National Park
At Forillon National Park, the cliffs fall into the sea. The Cap-Bon-Ami lookout, on the north side of the park, offers a breathtaking view and a magnificent beach! One can also delight in the landscape and the colours of autumn from the top of Mont Saint-Alban, at the observation tower overlooking the tip of Forillon advancing into the sea.
Suspended glass platform – Géoparc de Percé
The great innovation of 2017: the Géoparc de Percé has unveiled a unique suspended glass platform. Perched on top of Mont Sainte-Anne, it offers one of the most beautiful views of Percé Rock and the village. The glass floor overlooking the forest 300 m below, as well as the zipline, will appease the thrill seeking visitors.
The Ruisseau Creux waterfall – Domaine des Chutes du Ruisseau Creux
Located in Saint-Alphonse, north of New Richmond, the Domaine des Chutes du Ruisseau Creux is a hidden gem of Gaspésie. From the trailhead, cross a footbridge suspended above the crystal clear Bonaventure River; this bridge accesses 37 km of trails. The Ruisseau Creux waterfall is the star of the show, nestled in the hollows of the canyon-like cliffs. In this mainly hardwood forest, it is guaranteed that autumn is the best season to enjoy!
Horizon de rêve Lookout – Matapédia-Les Plateaux
The village of Matapédia and those of the surrounding areas form an area that is commonly called “Les Plateaux”. The observation tower at Saint-André-de-Restigouche, the Robitaille waterfall, the Chute à Picot (waterfall) and the 4 lookouts are the must-sees of the area. In the fall, blazing colours are reflected in the surrounding rivers and create a spectacular landscape! Local suggestion: the Horizon de Rêve lookout point at Saint-Alexis-de-Matapédia, accessed by car via Rang Saint-Henri South and then a short trail. Get a map before you go.
Although it is difficult to predict with accuracy the best time to observe the autumn colours, traditionally the peak of the show occurs during the first two weeks of October. #gaspesieautumn
